The 1st XV continued their vast improvement with an impressive 38-27 win vs Stoke on Trent, a result which brings increased optimism that we can overtake them and Kendal to stay in the division.
Martin O’Keefe’s Man of the Match, Mike Byrne, full back Arthur Lennon who opened the scoring and Lawrence Cowen's surges gave Park the edge over a Stoke side who nonetheless were rewarded for sustained pressure in the second half with a bonus point earning fourth try.
Penrith away will provide a tough challenge but the spirit of the side is bullish enough to force a win and put further pressure on the sides above us.
Underlining the fierce competition for places, the 2nd XV which included last season’s club captain, Sean Mooney and scrum half Sam Chidley, who was returning from injury, won 54-5 against a Preston Grasshoppers squad side.
With the imminent completion of the new function room, the future is looking bright for Birkenhead Park FC.
